On International Study Abroad Day, �ؾ��’s Haile College of Business celebrated in a transformative way. Longtime Department Chair and Professor of Economics Dr. Gary E. Clayton and his wife, Dr. Jonna R. Clayton, have established a $1 million endowment to support study abroad opportunities and scholarships for students majoring in economics.

A Transformational Experience That Sparked a Lifetime of Global Exploration

As an undergraduate student, Dr. Gary Clayton completed a semester-long study abroad program in Vienna. He considers it the most rewarding academic experience of his life.

That single semester sparked something much larger.

Since then, Gary and Jonna Clayton have traveled to more than 100 countries. Through this endowment, they hope to provide �ؾ�� economics majors with similar transformational experiences — opportunities that enhance personal growth, expand cultural understanding and strengthen professional development.

Their vision is clear: empower students to think globally, act confidently and pursue opportunities beyond borders.

Expanding Access to Study Abroad

Through the Clayton endowment:

Economics majors with a qualifying GPA will be eligible to participate in semester-break study abroad programs.
Students can take part in four- to six-week summer programs.
Other qualifying international experiences that fulfill requirements within the economics degree track may also be covered.
Eligible students can participate at no additional cost.

By removing financial barriers, this endowment ensures that more students can take advantage of international opportunities that broaden perspectives and strengthen career readiness.
